Five Skincare Products I Love

In January, I attended a school of aesthetics to become a certified makeup artist. I learned so much about skin care and it really motivated me to start taking better care of my skin. I have combination skin as well as some hormonal acne (and if you know anything about me, it is that my hormones are never how they should be!). Here is what I have been loving for getting my skin clear lately:

Before washing my face, I use the Makeup Eraser to take off my makeup. I find it much easier than using makeup wipes. I wash my face morning and night with the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser, and about once a week I use the cleanser with my Clairsonic. Afterwards, both morning and night, I use the Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum - I think this has been the primary source of clearing up my skin. About twice a week, I use the Juice Beauty Green Apple Blemish Clearing Peel and every other week I use the Sephora Collection Face & Eye Masks. I've tried a few different ones and I really like the Pomegranate mask and the Pearl mask (these are super affordable too!)

I am still on the hunt for a great moisturizer. I tried the Juice Beauty Oil Free Moisturizer and was not a fan. I also tried the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti-Aging Moisturizer and enjoyed it, but I don't think it was worse buying the full size. Do you have a favorite moisturizer?

Allergy Season Has Begun...

...and let me just say it is kicking my butt!

I have finally found an allergy remedy that is working for my itchy eyes and stuffy nose.

I mix 10 drops of lavender, 10 drops of lemon, 10 drops of peppermint, 10 drops of copaiba, and 10 drops of an energy blend (I use En-R-Gee from Young Living, which is a blend of: Rosemary, juniper, lemongrass, nutmeg, Idaho balsam fir, clove, and black pepper). I mix the oils with Jojoba oil (I get mine from trader joes) in a roller ball. I apply this blend to the back of my neck and sometimes behind my ears. This blend (minus the Jojoba oil) is great to diffuse at bedtime or throughout the day.

Lavender is considered an anti-histamine and helps with those itchy, watery eyes.
Lemon assist with supporting your lymphatic system drainage and is an anti-inflammatory.
Peppermint does so many awesome things for allergies! Peppermint can help clear out those sinuses, can energize you, and is known as an expectorant. An expectorant, in simple terms, helps loosen all the gunk in your lungs. I also keep a roller ball of just peppermint handy for those brutal headaches!
Copaiba is a magnifier. When using copaiba, the benefits of the other oils become stronger.
En-R-Gee is great because when my allergies are in full force I tend to feel tired. This blend is known to help with mental alertness.

Do you have any essential oils you love for allergy season?

P.S. Please make sure you are buying quality essential oils, especially if you are putting them on your skin. Just do your research! Also, these oils are not meant to diagnose, cure, or prevent any disease.

Five Beauty Products I'm Loving...on Friday

I have discovered a few beauty products over the past few months that I have been absolutely loving!

 photo flatlay482016_zpsyd7qrvme.png

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer - This product is life changing! (or should I say face changing?!) I have been struggling with some unsightly pores lately and this has really improved the appearance of my makeup, especially the concealer that tends to sneak down from my eyes to my cheeks. I purchased the sample size on a whim at Sephora and just picked up the full size during the Sephora VIB Sale that is currently going on.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows - These are apparently a dupe for MAC shadows, however I own one MAC shadow so I can't be a good tell of that claim. I do love these shadows regardless! They are creamy and blendable, plus super affordable. I have used these on all of my clients this month and might have to get a set for myself.

Clinique Cheek Pop in Plum Pop - I purchased this blush on a snowy night when I was definitely longing for spring. The color looks intimidating but if you are careful, it gives the perfect flush to the cheeks.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder - Whew! That is a mouthful. I have been using this as a finishing powder the past six months and have even gotten my mom hooked on it.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water - This stuff is amazing. I have been going for a very minimal look lately and this is perfect to slap on and go. I even picked up a shade darker for when/if I get a little tan!

What are your favorite beauty products at the moment?

Wedding Wednesday: First Look

In two months, Micah & I will celebrate our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! Well that really flew by! Over the next two months, I thought it would be fun to share some details from our wedding.

Today I am sharing out first look. We decided to do a first look primarily because it meant we could enjoy our cocktail hour - can you tell we like to have fun?! We loved having our parents, bridesmaids, and groomsmen all there for the first look. It also helped kick off the fun!

All Hail the Queen...

can be the Queen of Excuses. I have an excuse for why I don't get to the gym more. I have an excuse for ordering takeout instead of cooking. I have an excuse for getting that sugary, delicious coffee at Starbucks instead of drinking a coffee at home. I have an excuse for not going to yoga on Saturday mornings.

I have an excuse for not putting the laundry away and living out of the basket for a week. I have an excuse for watching Netflix instead of cleaning the house.

I have an excuse for not blogging. I have an excuse for not going out on a Friday night. I have an excuse for everything.

This year I will be focusing on dropping the excuses. I am going to focus on getting things done and doing what I know is good for me.

Don't be afraid to call me out on my shit,

P.S. I am completely aware that we are already a month into 2016...I had a good excuse ;)

A Grown-Up Review: Address Book!

A little change of plans: I had big plans for the month of July and getting things straightened up, however, Micah and I have purchased our first home and will be moving within the next month! I have decided to hold off and organize once we are in a new home. But for now, here is a review on a beautiful address book...

While I was writing my wedding thank you notes, I had the brilliant idea to purchase a paper address book so that as the years go on we have all of our loved ones' contact information in one location. After some searching, I stumbled upon May Designs and fell in love with the designs. Their notebooks are functional, beautiful, and great quality. I ordered one of the Address Books in the 'Book Tea Aarini Paisley' print. Needless to say - I am obsessed!

The book is very high quality and absolutely stunning. I love that you can personalize it with your monogram, or family name like I did. There are so many prints and colors to choose from.

I really enjoy the contact information pages of their address book. The pages are simple yet still cute and charming! I highly recommend checking out their website and other products!

Next on my "to buy" list is one of their gorgeous photo books for pictures from our honeymoon! Check out May Designs ! New shoppers receive 20% off!

The Emily Verision of a Capsule Wardrobe

I was scrolling through Pinterest one day when I found this post on How to Do a 37-Piece Capsule Wardrobe. I was immediately intrigued. I am someone who buys pieces carelessly, not thinking about how they will fit into my wardrobe. And because I am careless I had built a wardrobe in which only 10% of my items received any love. On a stormy Sunday, I pulled all of the clothes out of my closet and drawers and got down to business, with a little help from Sophie!

I started with the easy things: workout clothes and dressier items. I knew they would not count towards my 37 piece limit, but I also knew I had a few things that needed to go and be re-organized.

The second part was my tops, then bottoms, then dresses, then shoes. If I knew I didn't love it, I put it in the give away pile. If I wasn't sure, I put it in the maybe pile. At the end of the process, the entire maybe pile ended up in the give away pile. I found that once I gave myself a chance to think about it I really didn't love the piece.

At the end of the day, I ended up with 36 pieces:

  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 4 pairs of pants/jeans
  • 5 sweaters/kimonos
  • 1 jean vest
  • 13 tank tops
  • 4 short dresses
  • 4 maxi dresses
  • and 2 solid v-neck t-shirts!

It has been one week living with my capsule wardrobe and I love it! The only thing I noticed through this process is my lack of work appropriate pants, so the hunt is on. I highly recommend going through your closet and choosing simplification!
